Why We Made A Roguelike Cozy Fishing Game

When you hear 'fishing game,' you probably think of tranquil afternoons by a digital lake, accompanied by a soft acoustic guitar soundtrack. And when you load up Derby Creek, that is exactly what you will feel at first.

We love the relaxing, methodical loop of a good cozy game. The beautiful pixel art reflections on the water, the satisfying plop of the bobber, and the tension of waiting for a bite. But as indie developers, we also thrive on unpredictability, high stakes, and the deep progression systems found in our favorite run-based games.

So, we asked ourselves: What if fishing could be a roguelike?

The Calm Before the Catch

In Derby Creek, you start with a simple rod, basic bait, and a quiet spot by the water. Our goal was to nail the quintessential fishing game mechanics. The casting feels weighty, and reeling requires focus. It's the perfect place to unwind.

But beneath the surface, the creek is constantly changing.

Help us build the Creek

We are pouring all of our chaotic, cozy energy into making Derby Creek the most unique roguelike fishing game out there. If you want to see behind the curtain and help shape the creek before anyone else, we need your help!
